If this weekend is indication, I believe winter has arrived and announced its presence with a crescendo! As well, the fall colors appear to have hit their peak and I hope you were able to withstand the chill to get out and enjoy the view.

The saying, “sometimes you need look no further than your own backyard!” seemed to have been very appropriate the week. For the first time in many years I found myself in town and not in Florida as the autumn colors made there way into full bloom. As I have been reading about so many traveling far distances to chase the colors, it appeared that we had our own very magical kaleidoscope of color here in the valley. I spent a couple of ½ days chasing the local color and was extremely grateful I did.

My first endeavor took me up on Monte Sano Mountain splitting my time between the park and one of the Land Trust trails. The Land Trusts’ Railroad Bed trail is easily accessible and offers a lot of beautiful views year round. I came across one of the creeks with water following from a recent rain and trees full of color. It just screamed to be captured.

On my other ½ day outing I headed up to Falls Mill in Winchester, TN to visit with the proprietors Jane and John Lovett and then took time to capture one of the most picturesque working mills in the U.S. No matter what time of year I visit the mill, it always has something to offer visually and today was no exception. The hues of yellows and oranges set the tone for a beautiful fall setting with the fallen leaves blanketing the grounds.

While photographing the mill I was continually looking around at the many colors of the trees and the fallen leaves. As I was walking about I was taken back by the artistry created by the leaves covering the grounds. The grouping of leaves just might have been the best capture of the day!! I love the minimalism of the juxtaposition of the leaves so full of color. To say the least I was extremely glad that I was here in Alabama and was able to carve out a little time to enjoy the show!!!

“Your true colors, true colors
True colors, are shining through
I see your true colors and that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors, true colors
Are beautiful, like a rainbow”
