“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go!”

Like most of you, I really do love this time of year! People are in a very festive spirit, celebrating with family and friends, and awaiting the arrival of the big jolly guy himself, Old Saint Nick. But two things I truly enjoy that put me in the spirit of Christmas are holiday decorations and Christmas music. There is nothing that says Christmas more that a yard full of “blow up inflatable” decorations like Santa on a John Deer, Snoopy on a motorcycle, Santa in an Airplane, Sponge Bob, Santa in a Helicopter, or my all time personal favorites, anything Christmas in a “Snow Globe!” Actually, could there be anything worse then the blow up inflatable Christmas decoration!?!?!?!

But all kidding aside, I do love a good Christmas carol sung by Luther Vandross and I do love driving around the city looking at all the festive holiday decorations. No matter what I have going on, it seems to put a “change in my latitude and a change in my attitude.”

There are so many Christmas displays going on in and around the city that you would need more than a few nights to take them all in. When I do happen to be in town, I  look forward to seeing the luminaries put out each year in he historical district but this year I chose to drive out to Hampton Cove to view and photograph the waterfall accented by the luminaries. Given the number of cars that drive in and out of the community the shot almost did not take place.  But stronger wills must prevail and I hung out long enough to capture one frame that showed the majestic beauty of the setting.

The second area of monumental proportions worth seeing is the downtown Huntsville “Tinsel Trail” Christmas tree display at Big Spring Park, hosted by the non-profit group, the Downtown 47. The nearly 200 Christmas trees are decorated by a “sponsor” that pays a fee and is allowed the opportunity to express their festive imagination and creativity. The beauty of the display is it borders the pond and is set against the backdrop of the skyline of Huntsville. It is one Christmas display that is a “must see!”
