Can you say, “Turn up the Heat!” I returned to Huntsville this week just in time to catch the 100-degree weather with a weeks worth of corporate shoots scheduled outside. To say the least, shooting outdoors for 4 days was brutal.

One of the most rewarding things for a photographer may very well be the opportunity to effect change in society with one photograph or a series of photographs.  I had the absolute honor and privilege this week to be asked to participate in helping to begin to develop the campaign for “Village of Promise” with it’s grass roots here in Huntsville, Al. It was founded by a group of concerned citizens and businessmen and women determined to change the face of poverty and education in this community. The program is fashioned after Geoffrey Canada’s, Harlem Children’s’ Zone.

One of the thoughts for imagery was showing a child and what can happen to them with a failed educational system. As we were looking for locations at an abandoned school, we came across the entrance and there was a point of light streaming down on the stairs. For that very moment, it was the perfect spot and perfect location to tell the story. For more information on “Village of Promise” you can go to: http://promise.sewpmu.solidearth.com/

Whether this community or yours …. Educating our youth is the Key to the future for all of us!!! Many thanks to “Master Jack” for a fabulous acting job.
