A very good Monday morning to you. Happy belated Mothers Day to all the wonderful women that we celebrate on this day. I hope yours was a wonderful day spent with family.
Mothers Day was first celebrated in the U.S. in 1908 through the efforts of Anna Jarvis in honor of her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis who was a peace activist during the civil war. Anna started a campaign to honor her mother and all mothers because she felt a mother is “the person who has done more for you than anyone else in the world.” In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother’s Day as a national holiday to honor mothers.
Mother’s day was filled with rich memories and family get-togethers. Many of my memories were of time we spent together going to the beach. My mother loved the beach and spent as much time as should could with friends. I know it was a place that was very much part of her heart. It is probably why I relish going back to the gulf and ocean as much as I do.
My mother passed away in 2011 but there is not a day that goes by that some memory of her does not find it’s way into my daily thoughts. I am the person I am today because of her and all that she did. Because of her daily devotion to raising my sister and myself we have lived a fruitful life filled with fond memories that we shared together. My life was truly enriched by her presence and I will be forever grateful that I was her son. When I find myself watching glorious sunsets or fill the ocean breeze I think of her and all the times we spent together enjoying the glory that God has to offer.
I hope your day was a special one. Enjoy!
