A very happy Monday morning to you. I would hope your coffee is warm and you are looking forward to your last full week of August.

I had an exciting weekend and spent most of it chasing music at venues around the city. The highlight may have just been seeing Amy McCarley and Chris Simmons (two of my favorite local musicians) teamed up Saturday evening at Straight to Ale for a cancer benefit. The duo, along with Matt Ross and Michael Kilpatrick, played a set of Amy’s original songs and slayed them. To see either one of these two artists would be worth the price of admission but to see them together, PRICELESS!

Speaking of music and a perfect segue into my second series of photographs. This coming Friday is the last concert of the year for the Land Trust of North Alabama at Historic Three Caves. The indie style rock band, MOON TAXI, will be closing out the series coming off recent appearances at mega festivals including Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. The concert, for the young or young at heart, is a not too miss season ending show and the venue may be one the best kept secrets in north Alabama. And speaking of “moon taxis”, I had the pleasure to be over at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center last week and catch the Saturn space vehicle, along with the Davidson Center, set against the backdrop with a crescent moon looming in the deep blue sky. It was an amazingly clear evening and the USSRC is always worth stopping in to marvel at the spectacular view it offers.

There was a corporate function going on that evening and I was lucky enough to have stuck around just long enough to catch a fireworks show they had planned for their guests. I cannot think of a more majestic background, in Alabama to watch fireworks then one set around vehicles as magnificent as the Saturn V rocket. As luck would have it I think I found myself in the perfect location to capture the perfect show.  SO, speaking of “moon taxi’s”  …… ENJOY!!!
