I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend celebrating with family and friends. I trust that you also took time to reflect on why we celebrate the day and gave thanks to all the men and women in the armed forces that afford us that opportunity.

For the past three years I have spent my Memorial Day in the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina but to due to a “change in seasons and a change in reasons”, I was not there this year. I instead found myself visiting a dear friend of mine on the gulf at Perdido Key, Fl.  Marina, Ukrainian born and now a US citizen, was one of the first models I met when I started photographing in that industry and we have been close friends since. She stepped away from modeling for some time but decided to get her feet wet again and I was asked to help. Not a bad job to have or a bad place to got to “work”. Спасибі пані Марина

But the real reason for my blog today and my thoughts is that visiting the gulf coast so reminded me of OBX. For the previous 3 1/2 years I spent visiting and photographing, I gained a huge affection for the islands and the people. Most that know me and know my photography saw a rebirth in my spirit and my passion for doing what I do. Getting to be there and experience all that the NC coast has to offer, is an experience that is so much a part of me now and my photography and I know I will be returning. It was a very bittersweet situation I found myself in this weekend being in Florida and reflecting back on the incredible memories of OBX.

As we traveled around the panhandle looking for places to shoot there were numerous reminders that gave me pause to stop and think of OBX. While following the hood of the car we came across a fleet of shrimping vessels preparing for their nights journey. It was so reminiscent of the fishing vessels and harbors in OBX and the pageantry of the vessels going out to sea that I loved photographing.

And what better way to close out the visit than a sunset. Most of the evenings we had clear skies but I think mother nature heard me explaining to Marina how much more majestic the skies and sunsets are when you have clouds to accentuate the skyline. She saw fit to put on a show the last evening. ENJOY!!!
