It goes without saying that last weekend was just another typical Alabama April weekend, filled with warm days and cold nights. It’s like it is a continuing April Fools joke! As they say, if you do not like the weather just stick around it’s going to change.
I can remember as a child that there were a few things that really got me excited and always brought a smile to my face. Iconic images like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Ghouls and Goblins, Fireworks, the neighborhood Ice Cream truck and that large yellow Oscar Mayer Wiener Mobile running down the highway. As I have gotten older the enthusiasm may have faded slightly but those childhood memories still loom large and, when encountered, those iconic figures and images always put a big smile to my face.
Last week I found myself chasing one of those iconic images as I spotted the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile heading south on the Parkway and I felt that childhood tinge once again. The Wienermobile has put the miles and smiles on for over 70 years and has stood the test of time. The 27-foot hotdog with its signature yellow stripe and logo still finds favor with the young and the young at heart. As you drive down the road you can see the excitement on the faces of everyone as the vehicle passes.
The Wienermobile has been crisscrossing America’s highways since 1936. There are currently 6 Wienermobiles traveling the freeways and back roads of the U.S. bringing the same joy and excitement it did when I was a kid. Drivers of the Wienermobile are called HotDoggers and it is a job that you can apply for. I am filling about my application as we speak. Could there be any cooler vehicle then the Wienermobile and could there be any cooler job than to be a Hotdogger? In todays world of social media could there be any cooler backdrop for a selfie? I think not!
Once you heard the song, it was forever etched in your mind –
“I wish I were an Oscar Meyer wiener
that is what I’d really like to be
’cause if I were an Oscar Meyer wiener
everyone would be in love with me
Oh, I’m glad I’m not an Oscar Meyer wiener
that is what I’d never want to be
’cause if I were an Oscar Meyer wiener
everyone would take a bite of me”
Who could forget those little hot dog whistles?
Enjoy and pass the mustard!!!!!!!!!
