A very spooky Monday morning to you all. Where did the fall go? It appears that Mother Nature has decided that we need a little bit more of summer.
As a child, I cannot think of a day that I looked forward to more then Halloween except for the day that Santa came a knocking. It was the one day of the year that allowed me to live out my superhero fantasies and pit myself against the villains to vie for the most candy. Halloween is no longer a day just for children but has become one of the most favored days for adults to dress up and live out a few childhood fantasies.
With Halloween coming on a Monday this year, it gave ghouls and goblins a full weekend to start the party. The Huntsville Young Professionals organization and the Land Trust got a really early start when the hosted their annual HAUNT at Historic Three Caves on October 2. The beautiful and not so beautiful were bused in from downtown and danced the night away. I must say I was extremely impressed with the creativity displayed by many in their costumes. The caves were the perfect location for a ghoulish evening.
With a week to recuperate, many of the revelers headed to their favorite watering holes to parade themselves amongst the fearless and via for the crown of “best of the best” traveling from costume contest to costume contest held across the city. One of my all time favorite spots has been the Straight to Ale brewery and this year, with their new operation at Campus 805, it made it just that much more enticing. I think they set an all time record for the most costumed entries in a contest this year. Kudos to Bruce and Jo Weddendorf and all of the staff for putting on a spectacular Halloween extravaganza!!!
Over the years I have had the pleasure to create many images representing the holidays and Halloween has become one of my favorites holidays to do so. One of my favorite shoots was with Huntsville Makeup Artist, Sylvia Smith and Knoxville model April Thomas. It was a hallowing good time and the results were simply amazing.
