It was just another incredible week for Mother Nature and an exceptional weekend for football. I would hope that you were able to get out and take advantage of any number of the events being hosted this weekend.

This last weekend was one of those weekends where there was so much going on, that I was really wishing that I was twins. Of course I say that knowing that I am a photographer that wants to experience it all, first hand. There were two events, though, that I knew were a must over the weekend.

The first event was the Trail of Tears. It is an annual motorcycle rally that celebrates and pays tribute to Native Americans. The Trail of Tears was the name given to the relocation effort of the southeastern Native American nations in 1830. For the last 18 years, motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the U.S. ride from Chattanooga, TN to Florence, AL. It is a spectacle to behold with thousands of bikes of all varieties being escorted by State Troopers. I caught the group as they approached Huntsville. From my vantage point a lone ambassador and her paparazzi, Times photographer Eric Shultz, were greeting them.

After the motorcycle brigade had passed, I headed east to Moontown Airport in Gurley, Al where my second choice event was taking place. The annual Fly-In is touted as the largest grass field event in the U.S. with over 100 classic, experimental, war bird and vintage airplanes on display. The event allows spectators to get up close and personal and is a photographers delight.

As is the potential with every air show, on Sunday there was a mishap at the airport and one of the planes, with pilot and passenger crashed and killed both. It is a very unfortunate incident for a Fly-In that has had a stellar safety record and has been so very entertaining and educational to the community for so many years. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the community.
