How time flies with the month of November right around the corner! Before you know it we will be eating Turkey and giving thanks and then waiting for Santa to arrive.
I can honestly say that there is NOTHING that I enjoy more at this time of the year then watching College Football. I am a conflicted fan because I grew up a Georgia Bulldogs fan living in Florida and when I moved to Alabama I spent the last four years of Bear Bryant’s career photographing him and Alabama football from the sidelines. As an avid football fan life could have not been any better during those years. So now I split my allegiances between BAMA and the DAWGS and rooting for the SEC when they play anyone else. Most of the time I watch the game from the comfort of a friends sofa or at a sports bar if I am traveling. I do have my superstitions!!!! I wear my “lucky hats” and recently added a lucky travel BAMA Gnome to the mix! It is “all about tradition!”
Last week a good friend of mine Cotton DeMarcus asked if I would like to tailgate and attend the University of Alabama vs University of Tennessee game in Tuscaloosa. I jumped at the chance. With Alabama being the # 1 team in the nation and Tennessee coming off a huge win it looked to be a promising fall afternoon of college football. It also promised to be a two-day celebration of epic proportion on the campus and around the quad. For the very few of you that have never attended a college football game I can tell you, there is nothing like the buzz and excitement of pre-game on campus and then actually being in the stadium with 100,000 avid fans.
The first time I saw Tennessee play Alabama it was during the Bear Bryant era and it was played in Knoxville. On that day Tennessee bested Alabama for the first time in twelve years. Knoxville was not a good place to be on that day if you were a BAMA fan. Fast forward 30 plus years and the results were just a little different this time around. On this day, there just was no contest. BAMA won 45-10!
There is nothing like attending a game and there is nothing like the excitement, sitting in the stadium with 100,000 cheering fans. It has been a few years since I have been in T-Town and fond memories of shooting from the sidelines past by as I sat high above the crowd taking it all end. Tradition … it is all about … TRADITION!!!! Roll Tide!!!
Enjoy!!!
