No matter where you were last weekend or what you were doing, I can only wish that you had a wonderful Memorial Day enjoying it with family and friends. I also hope you were able to take pause and give thanks to those that serve our country. It is always very gratifying to see the American flag and feel the patriotism displayed over this weekend.
Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial official start of summer. It gives us our first real taste of vacation and brings back fond memories of what if felt like getting out of school for the summer..
I spent my weekend in the Outer Banks putting the finishing touches on opening the Hwy 12 gallery (www.hwy12photoarts.com) for the season. You could tell that everyone was talking full advantage of the beautiful weather because the roads, the beaches and the waterways were jammed. In the evenings the marinas were filled with fishing vessels, of all sizes, back with their days catch.
OBX is known for it’s beach access and off-shore fishing and this weekend proved to be the perfect match. You could find an occasional “clammer” with rake in hand and bucket in tow trying to avoid becoming a bow ornament.. There is nothing better than fresh steamed clams and your cool drink of choice.
