Time To Reflect

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

How wonderful it must be to have a 3 day holiday weekend. I was once an 8 to 5 week day warrior … years ago….. they say, “The Good Old Days”.  Today, as a small business owner, there is really no such thing as a holiday or a weekend … we make those days when work is slow.  The only way I know it is a holiday now, is when I happen to call one of my friends who works for the government and realize they are not at work.

All kidding aside ….. this weekend is not so much about the time off as it is about Memories, Honor and being an American. How proud to be an American and have the responsibility of Honoring those that have given so much for our Freedom and way of life. This weekend is not a time for remorse but a time of celebration of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for you and I. I hope that as you basked in the sun or rain …. you took a moment to reflect and give praise to those that are the true … Heroes!!

I think that Lee Greenwood said it best in, “God Bless the USA!” with the Lyrics
“Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.”

There is no more iconic symbol of being American than our Flag ….. which stands tall during times of peril. I trust you had a fabulous weekend with family and friends.

We Have Liftoff

Monday, May 18th, 2009

It is one of the most spectacular sites you will ever see and unfortunately it is soon to be a distant memory.  As I sit in Houston and await my next plane, I am reminded of just how magnificent the whole “space ballet” is with its’ flying machine and white knights. This past few days, I have had the opportunity to see allot of the incredible images on TV and in the papers of the Astronauts and their space walks and marvel at their technological accomplishments. To watch them work on the space telescope brings back fond memories of my days diving in the NBS tank as they repeatedly practiced for their repair missions.

Since leaving NASA I have had the pleasure of being invited back as a guest to view a couple of shuttle launches and here is one of those incredible past memories. Houston … we have liftoff ….. God Speed!!

As I  once again travel the highways and by-ways, I am no further away than a phone call or an email. I hope you have a wonderful week.

When It Rains….It Pours

Monday, May 11th, 2009

It is always a love – hate relationship. When it is too hot, we wish it were cooler. When it is too cold, we wish it were warmer. When it is too dry we pray for rain and when it rains we pray for sunshine. From the looks of the last couple of weeks, some of you prayed a little too much.

After two weeks of deluge I started looking out my windows to see if the animals were beginning to line up two by two. I did see two rabbits out in the front yard but that is another story. I did hear lots of hammering coming from my neighbors’ house which got me a little more concerned … only to realize that he was doing some renovations.

The good news  is it appears that, for most of the country, it is soon to be over and the brutal heat is not far behind (bad news). What happened to spring?

The better news is … with all of the rain, the steams and waterfalls around the city provide some spectacular views for hikers. I took the opportunity on two occasions to get out and hike the state park and the Land Trust (http://www.landtrust-hsv.org). The image is from Monte Sano State park (http://www.alapark.com/montesano). The park offers many wonderful sites and when the water is running the waterfalls and creeks are spectacular.

As luck would have it, I start another journey and I am will be on the road again… If you need me, I an no further away than a phone call or an email.

Have a great week!

Shop Till You Drop

You know….it kind of is a Magical Place …

I know that larger cities may just have bigger and “possibly” better, but we know there is no other place like it in Alabama. For us “Huntsvillian’s”, it has it all … dining, shopping, entertainment, night life, and lodging. And on top of all of that, it has it’s very own “ride” … a gondola or for the more adventurous – paddle boats. Some of you, when visiting Bridge Street, might even consider sitting on a bar stool or watching your favorite movie with a drink in hand ….. a wild ride.

I drive by and on some days …..for a brief moment ….. I flash back to a vision of the old “The Mall” and then I think … is this really Huntsville? Visually, it so compliments the cities new look and new attitude. We’ve come along way baby!!

This photograph (shot in infrared) was captured on one of those drive by’s when all just seemed to fit!

Bridge Street

All through my most recent travels I have been shooting allot of beautiful places. If you find that you have a need for stock imagery or corporate wall art, contact me. I may have just what you need to fit your requirements. Or we may just have to do it ….. The Old Fashion Way ….. by assignment!!!!

Have a great week!
