You Got Mail

Monday, March 30th, 2009

You know it seems never ending. How did we ever communicate without it? EMAIL … you have to love it … you gotta hate it!!! There never seems to be enough hours in the day to respond to all of the mail we receive…..personal email, business email, spam, forwarded messages and … BLOGS!!!

Does it seems like an eternity since we did it…communication….The “Old Fashion Way!” Except for the bills we get, some of us might have forgotten what that red, white & blue truck stopping at the box on the road is dropping off.

On a recent trip to the west coast I had a few hours to run around and drove over to Sausalito, the bay city with the Million Dollar house boats….homes attached to docks sitting in the bay. The photo of the mailboxes below belonged to the “lower class housing district”!!!

I hope you have a great week!

Solitude

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

This week finds me back writing you from Cape Hatteras, my home away from home. It is such a mesmerizing place. And like the lighthouse, it continues to beckon me back.

Being here gives me lots of time to think as well as capture the beauty of the area. It provides me ample time to wander off on self guided journeys to explore and contemplate just what the future might hold. It helps me “fix” things. And isn’t that what we all tend to do. Seek a place that allows for the solitude of the moment for us to think, refresh and charge our batteries. A special place that we all go to “catch a breath of fresh air!”

Like the fisherman below, standing at the edge of the turmoil of two bodies of water crashing into each other and knowing he is at peace with the moment, we too seek to find that special place.
EnVogue, the music group said it best when they sang, “Free your mind and the rest will follow!”

The photograph was captured at “Cape Point” on the Outer Banks where two bodies of water from the north and south shores, moving in opposite direction, collide. It is a spectacular site to behold and from what I hear, it is an incredible fishing spot.

Solitude

As I always say, I am no farther than a phone call or an email away  from assisting you with any of your photographic needs including  corporate or personal art.
Have a wonderful week.

Why Is It?

Monday, March 16th, 2009

You know as long as I have been a photographer there are many things that have captured my eye and interest but none like the last light of a setting sun or the beckoning beam of a lighthouse.

What is it about these two that so captures the heart and soul of those of whose who stand in awe every night of their glorious calling?

Is it the beauty they possess or the lasting “memories of the moment” they leave us with?

In my opinion, there are few things that are more mesmerizing, more breath taking and more heartfelt.
Put the two together, throw in a couple of seagulls  ….. priceless!!!

On a recent trip to Lake Michigan I had an opportunity to file one more memory away for a rainy day ….. the Lake Michigan PierHead Light.

Like I always say, if needed, I am no farther than a phone call or an email.
Have a fabulous week.

Where’s the Beef?

Monday, March 9th, 2009
If you have ever had the opportunity to visit Kansas City, you know they are …….. all the Beef. BBQ runs rampant in the city. I had the absolute pleasure of spending an extended weekend here teaching at a photographic workshop. As luck would have it, we were able to step away from the “sauce” one day and find a Sushi bar …… the alternative beef.
The photograph displayed below was taken in 2006 when I spent two weeks in KC shooting for a book publisher. The view of the city was taken from Kaw Point, the exact (well the say) location that Lewis and Clark came ashore when they were traveling up the river. If L&C could only have imagined what the other side of the river would eventually look like in years to come.

The Simple Things

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Another week in Huntsville and just a dusting of snow. How beautiful it was .. how fast it left us. Being a Florida boy I never tire of the beauty of snow. Can you have snow without the cold?

You know there is beauty and art in everything that surrounds us. There are those that instantly see it and appreciate the beauty and those that pass it by without notice.

While visiting friends in California, I noticed a display of glasses on their table top with the morning sun beaming through the kitchen blinds.

I just had to grab a camera and see if the emotion of the moment matched the reality of my vision. What do you think?

In the end I chose to tone it for a more pleasing effect.

 Salute

How beautiful was the simplicity of the moment. If I had walked past and not given thought to photographing it I would have most likely lost the opportunity, for tomorrow is another day.

Life is kind of like that … we sometimes allow the the beauty of the moment to escape us rationalizing that we will appreciate it tomorrow. Today … really is the day!!!
